Turning purple

So I was thinking of going to the Obama thing on Monday, except Monday is the day I’m home with the little girl.

Also, the tickets are all gone.

As in, people were waiting in line about 5 a.m. this morning to get tickets. The line at one point stretched for five blocks.

In Lancaster County.

And the Obama HQ had about 1,000 to distribute; they were long gone by mid-afternoon.

In Lancaster County.

This may or may not outstrip the interest when Hillary was here. But again: In Lancaster County. As in, a community that prides itself upon being the reddest part of a blue state. Has there ever, and I’m going back to Kennedy and beyond, been this much excitement in Lancaster over Democratic candidates?

And so we say, well, whenever any major figure comes here it’s a big deal, and surely that’s true. But yet. That this is happening in Lancaster County shows not just an excitement in this race, but the degree to which even this red community is slowly trending purple.
