Obama in Lancaster?

March 27th, 2008 12:09 pm · 18 comments

Sweet. Looks like Obama’s going to be here on Monday. Maybe. Article not exactly 100 percent definitive, but probably because the campaign itself didn’t say for sure.

In any event, it will be veddy veddy intersting to see if the crowd measures up to Hillary’s soiree at Millersville. I’d love to take the little boy but he’s in school -but maybe this is a lesson in civics worth an early dismissal.

No fainting at the rally. It's unbecoming of a journalist.

I hope that Obama takes PA. We really need to drop this Bush / Clinton nonsense. Obama has the presence and articulation of a statesman (or statesperson if you like). Neither McCain or Hillary have that quality. We need a statesman now more than ever. We need someone who can talk with the leaders of other countries and forge positive relationships. If Hillary has these qualities they have not been displayed. McCain is another blunt short sentence kind of person. We have had 8 years with an inarticulate president and it has caused us great damage both abroad and at home. The divide between repblicans and democrats has never been larger and it will take time and patience to heal. Until, this healing can occur we will have zero movement on important issues like healthcare and immigration.

In other words, the quality you most desire is someone who can deliver a good speech.... and no one from Toastmasters is even in the race.

Recognition and honors
An October 2005 article in the British journal New Statesman listed Obama as one of "10 people who could change the world,"[180] the only politician included on the list. In 2005 and again in 2007, Time magazine named him one of "the world's most influential people."[181] During his first three years in the U.S. Senate, Obama received Honorary Doctorates of Law from Knox College (2005),[182] University of Massachusetts Boston (2006),[183] Northwestern University (2006),[184] Xavier University of Louisiana (2006),[185] Southern New Hampshire University (2007),[186] and Howard University (2007).[187] The audiobook edition of Dreams from My Father earned Obama the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album in 2006.[188] He won the award a second time in 2008 for the spoken word edition of The Audacity of Hope. [189] A school in Obama's father's hometown, which the senator visited on his 2006 Kenya trip, was renamed the "Senator Barack Obama Primary School."[190]

I think the words he used were Articulate Statesman. Being able to deliver a good speech comes along as a by product of those qualities, but in general it means much more.

  • In September 2005, Clinton initially accepted but later rejected honorary membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha due to its exclusive requirements which would prevent her from accepting honorary membership in other National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations.[16]
  • In April 2006, Clinton was honored with the Remembrance Award from the Northeastern New York Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.[18]
  • During 2007, Clinton was awarded an honorary doctorate in medicine by the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, for being "a strong advocate for increased investment in medical research" and for "raising awareness of the increased health problems linked to obesity, poor quality food and physical inactivity."[20]

Now can you guys tell me who has accomplished more by these last 2 posts of mine?? It's a hard call. In another related article it said that Hillary had 5 bills passed since she's been senator - Obama only 1. What does that say???? I am really torn at this point in the race. there's ALL sorts of military helicopters coming in out of lancaster airport. Can this be related to the impending visit? or maybe training?

Whichever it is....they do look good.

Advance teams bringing equipment and doing safety checks?? When Bush came to Safe Harbor back in the beginning of his presidency, they had Secret Service at the Willow Valley Resort and the Dam for almost a week before he came. They had scouted the area around the damn about a month before his visit as well. Its rather amazing the work that goes on behind the scenes to pull this sort of thing off.

A good statesmen goes far beyond making a good speech, Nixon was a great statesman for opening China, Bush Sr was a stateman, Kissinger was a stateman none of those people would ever head up a toastmaster group.

That's true although I though Tricky Dick was a pretty good speaker........
