And so over at the Yahoo! News front page we’ve got a big AP video exclusive - “Juiced? The GOP candidates weigh in on Clemens, steroids.”
I can’t think of anything I’m less interested in hearing the GOP - or Democratic - candidates weigh in on than Clemens and steroids.
Of all the issues our national government has to face, steroids in baseball isn’t one of them. What business does the federal government have in baseball, or football, or any other sport (yeah, I know, antitrust exemptions, blah blah blah). In any event, steroids are sports’ collective problem, not the federal government’s. If Major League Baseball wants to eradicate the ‘roids, go for it; if not, let the players juice and hit 80 home runs a year or throw 97 mph at 45 years of age, let the game be more thrilling if the players are willing to bargain away their own future in that way. But either way, it’s not the federal goverment’s business - no matter what Mitt and McCain may think about it.
