So it WAS Fox’s call

January 2nd, 2008 10:23 am · 1 comment

Once again via TPM, we see that even the New Hampshire Republican Party has called upon “all media organizations planning pre-primary debates or forums” - which would presumably include Fox News - to “include all recognized major candidates in their events.”

Says Josh:

So, it’s all about Fox News. Paul’s out because he’s not a Fox News Bush-clone. Say whatever you want about the guy, Fox News shouldn’t be able to silence him because they don’t like his views.

Or as Andrew Sullivan notes:

But then ABC isn’t actively trying to destroy Ron Paul’s candidacy in order to protect its viewers from the crazy notion that not all conservatives want to occupy Iraq for ever. Fox News has been trying that for a long time.

This really does seem like something new under the sun. I know there are folks who have blasted LNP’s coverage of politics in terms of how we’ve treated past commissioners Henderson or Shellenberger. But imagine if this organization had held a debate, invited all the other candidates - except this one or that. In other words, the difference between reporting on candidates - reportage that some might call biased - versus just acing out the candidate completely.

Interesting comparison to 4 years ago:

We have not made a post for several weeks due to the holidays but now we are back and in full gear. For our first post, we are writing about how Ron Paul was not invited to the Fox News debate and how foolish it is for Fox News to not invite Ron Paul based on historical precedent of polls from USAElectionPolls.com.

Here are the reasons it is said that Ron Paul has not been invited to the Fox News debate and our debunking of those claims.

Not Polling Double Digits Nationally

There were four democratic candidates polling in the double digits nationally at this same point in time in 2004 according to NBC News. Those candidates were: Howard Dean, Wesley Clark, Joe Lieberman, and Dick Gephardt.

The two candidates with the most delegates to the Democratic convention were John Kerry and John Edwards -- neither of which received double digits.

NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll

Dick Gephardt11%

John Kerry7%

John Edwards5%

Carol Moseley Braun3%

Eliminating Ron Paul would be foolish under historical precedent when you consider the fact that Ron Paul has been polling just about as well as John Edwards and John Kerry were in 2004.

The latest national poll that we released on December 31, 2007 by Rasmussen Reports showed Ron Paul receiving 7% which is a tie with John Kerry of 2004.
