Why is Trent Lott resigning?

This can’t possibly be true.

(Ruffles through mental rolodex: Larry Craig, Mark Foley. Ted Haggard)

Well, OK, maybe it could be - but at this point, only Larry Flynt seems to know for sure.

Hmm ... another republican former college cheer boy, just like Bush.
Anybody ever figure out who "Talon News" "reporter" Jeff Gannon was giving probing in depth interviews to in the White House? laugh.gif

No jokes on late night TV... writer's strike.

Gil, I believe that this website was the first to post the speculations: http://bigheaddc.com/

Even blogactive has been slow to post about this until today and bouncing it back to Larry Flynt's speculations.

If this is true, it's amazing how many self-loathing closeted men have 'infiltrated' the republican party and then campaigned in overdrive against what they consider their own demons. Sort of like going into the priesthood to repress pedophilic or homosexual urges. Doesn't work.

To tell you the truth, I really hope that this isn't true about Trent Lott. I take no smug satisfaction in the "I told you so's" after all the damage has been done to our constitution and the hatefulness that has engulfed our nation. And these folks using our government to try to exorcize their demons.

I know Gil says that all threads lead to convention center bashing but I have to say that I will take no pleasure in saying "I told you so" if the center fails. The flagship building is gone on the square and there is no replacing it. And, just like the (as Marv calls it) concrete monstrosity on N. Queen St., the major players suffered nothing because of their actions. They just walked away with money stuffed coffers.

And I will take no pleasure in "I told you so" about Trent Lott if this is true. The fact that he lauded Strom Thurmond all the while knowing that Thurmond had a daughter with a black woman and chose to exorcize his demons by his segregationist rants and how Thurmond rallied hateful voters to his side by mining their bigotry to get elected was enough for me...

lott is the 6th gop senator....and there are at least a dozen gop house members (including hastert) who have either quit outright...or announced they won't run in 2008...

wonder why?

i guess obstructing the small dem majority isn't as much fun as in 2002-2006 when the gop majority was setting new records for spending and earmarks..

gop: cut and don't run '08

Did you not answer your own question?

"wonder why?"

"the gop majority was setting new records for spending and earmarks"

Not following general party principles should cause you to not run for re-election.

so you think a minority of the gop majority from 2002-2006 made those decisions?

Unfortunately yes, that is how it works. The leadership gets together and comes up with the plan and then bribes the lemmings to go along with it and if they don't then they get threatened. American politics at its best. Same goes in PA and probably most other states.
