Halloween, and who knew there were this many kids in the neighborhood?
The little boy went as Darth Vader, good costume though by halfway through trick-or-treating I was carrying both the mask and the lightsaber. He made out like the Frito Bandito, two full bags of stuff. I’ve already pilfered a mini-Mounds and Payday bars. The holiday weight gain begins here.
We have a couple folks on our street who don’t celebrate Halloween - religious reasons. Still, their lights are on, and as all good trick-or-treaters know, when the lights are on, that means they’re giving out candy. I know our neighbors aren’t. But maybe their giving out religious tracts or something. We got those once or twice when I was a kid. Laughter, then the garbage. But maybe it takes with some, who knows.
It’s nice to see a neighborhood alive with young parents and their costumed kids. We have a substantial number of older folks in our neighborhood, my section is in the process of turning over and that can sometimes lead to dark streets, not a lot of activity. But tonight it was good to be out, see and be seen; the one house had a popcorn maker out front and was serving heated cider. Neighbors; a happy Halloween to them. And also to you.
