What a maroon

October 26th, 2007 10:17 am · 20 comments

And now to our latest chapter in the ongoing saga of Falafel Bill O’Reilly, in which everyone’s favorite right-wing buffoon is all bent out of shape because Dumbledore is gay:

O’REILLY: Here’s — you can talk about this on your radio show tomorrow. There are millions of Americans who feel that the media and the educational system is trying to indoctrinate their children to a certain way of life, and that includes parity for homosexuals with heterosexuals.

And that’s what this Rowling thing is all about, because she sells so many books. So many kids read it, that she comes out and says, “Oh, Dumbledore is gay, and that’s great.” And this — it’s another in the indoctrination thing.

See? Because J.K. Rowling decided to announce that a character in a book was gay, children around the world are now going to be indocrinated into the homosexual lifestyle!

Ah, but Dennis Miller (ed. note: Dennis Miller?) tries to talk some sense into Falafel Bill, and indeed sounds sensible himself, saying that he doesn’t really care if Dumbledore is gay, and says he doesn’t think kids can be “indocrinated” into the unholy land of queerness.

Falafel Bill harrumphs this response:

O’REILLY: No, but tolerance. It’s — you know, he’s not going to be gay, but it’s tolerance of it.

Translation: Kids might be led to think this isn’t the end of the world.

Which, here on Planet Earth, it isn’t.

What is a maroon? Is that like a macaroon or some other kind of cookie? Maybe you have to have read more than one of Rawlings books to know? I read one book and that was enough for me !

Maroon? Okay...explanation.

[attachmentid=1331]

Characters: Bugs Bunny (rabbit on the right side of the Mason Dixon line). Yosemite Sam (Reb-dressed, red-mustachioed fellow on the left).

[left]Yosemite Sam: VARMINT! I'm comin' across that line!
Bugs Bunny: Ehhhhh, sorry Doc. No you're not.
Yosemite Sam: Ooooooh! Youuuuuu idget!
Bugs Bunny: What a maroon!

There. Now do you get it?

It could also be a color or an unfortunate circumstance.

Thanks for the clarification, Palmer. I quit watching Bugs Bunny cartoons about 30 years ago. biggrin.gif

More homosexual "crap to ram down our throats" so to speak.

I think I need a vacation from Lancaster Online !!! The pages take too long to load anyway and I am tired of all the commercials. I am not on the acceptable list of folks who are allowed to speak their opinions. I am not Democrat, homosexual or in favor of government funded health care for the masses. I am the wrong color to be considered a minority and I am a US citizen. I don't drink excessive amounts of alcohol nor frequent night spots and I believe that public places should be smoke-free.

And NOW to top it off....I don't even watch old violent cartoons...so I know not what Gil Smart means when he writes an idget byline !!! blink.gif

I'm with you on this one, Bigstew. I haven't read the HP series, but unless it's really a key element of the story, it's not important to reveal, IMO.

Palmer, you're about the same age as me - i.e. when you were a kid Bugs Bunny was still on TV...

LOL…does our society ever live in an imaginary fantasy world. Dumbledore is a fictional character: he doesn’t even exist!!! What is the point of “outing” someone who is a mere figment of someone imagination? The fact that it makes the news is proof that we are becoming stupider all the time. One thing I will say is that Dumbledore has a very fitting name, the brouhaha of “Dumb”ledore is “dumb”.

So, why did J. K. Rowling drag Dumbledore out of the closet? It wasn't obvious in the movie versions.
rolleyes.gif Next thing it will be revealed he is the head of the local republican party. laugh.gif
And does this mean that all our maiden aunts and bachelor uncles were in the closet?

I believe a movie executive or producer or someone wanted to incorporate a love story for him into one of the movies and was informed by Rowling at that point that Dumbledor was gay.

That was an excellent soundbite. Brings back memories! biggrin.gif My favorite BB cartoons were the ones where he plays classical piano. One of them was called "Rhapsody Rabbit," IIRC.

I hope your are joking....you are joking aren't you?

A gay love story in a child's book / movie? Like in "Broke Back Mountain"?

That is crazzzy! and sick!

BTW Rowlings couldn't inform us of Dumbwhatever's gayness, she simply made it up on the spot and told us he was gay, which in it's self is kind of a crazzy thing for an auther to do. cool.gif

No, I think they wanted a female love interest for him and Rowling then informed the exec that Dumbledor was gay.

QUOTE
Rowling told the audience that while working on the planned sixth Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," she spotted a reference in the script to a girl who once was of interest to Dumbledore. A note was duly passed to director David Yates, revealing the truth about her character.

It is never brought up in the books, there is part of a story that could be construde that perhaps there is more than a feeling of friendship toward another character (in a flashback sort of thing), but that's it. It is certainly not overt.
