Update: Tomorrow’s two stories are up. District superintendent Dr. John George spoke with reporter Paul Franz, told him there were 12 kids involved in the incident - and that the district is keeping both an eye on them and on the web.

Second story guages some reaction in Lititz. Some people have no real idea what’s been going on, haven’t heard about it. Others - almost everyone who has kids in the district - has heard about it, has been talking about. Has been worrying about it.

So we will have a couple stories on the Warwick thing for tomorrow’s paper. I’m beginning to think this really is a big deal; this isn’t the “isolated incident” the school district has described it as, and desperately wants it to be.

There seems to be a core group of kids involved in this who aren’t merely adorning their pickup trucks with confederate flags. They’ve got the full-on racist attitudes to go with it.

No links, because most of these kids are minors. But one kid in particular - not sure if he was involved with Wednesday’s incident but he’s definitely friends with those who were involved, he appears to hang at “redneck row” - the place in the school parking lot where these kids park their confederate-flag adorned trucks and hang out - has a history of posting on Stormfront.org. We’ve tracked a couple dozen posts. Here’s what Wikipedia says about Stormfront:

The Stormfront White Nationalist Community is a white pride Internet forum with the motto “White Pride World Wide”. Many organizations describe it as a Neo-Nazi organization, and accuse it of promoting racism and hate speech, and of serving as a forum for the advocacy of violence.^[1][2][3] It has been listed as a hate site, and a number of Internet content filters prevent access to it.^[4][5] Stormfront calls itself a “Racialist discussion board for pro-White activists and anyone else interested in White survival”.^[6]

Stormfront describes itself primarily as a “White Nationalist Community”. Stormfront has featured the writings of William Pierce, the leader of the National Alliance. In the past, Stormfront administrators have been accused of censoring some posts critical of the National Alliance. ^{[citation needed]}

Stormfront also hosts a copy of Adolf Hitler’s book Mein Kampf and describes Hiter as a man who “refused to surrender”.^[7] The site’s owner, Don Black, was himself a member of the American Nazi Party in the 1970s.^[8] A minority of Stormfront users describe themselves as Neo-Nazis.^{[citation needed]}

So, this is linked to what happened up in Warwick.

Many of the kids alleged to have been involved in this have MySpace sites. On one, a friend left this comment the day of the incident, Oct. 4:

hey man that was bullshit this morning but it was kinda funny i think you scared the shit out of that cop

Some of these kids have confederate flag logos all over their MySpace sites.

One of the friends listed on one of the kid’s sites is older, 27, also of Lititz. He posted a rant on his site:

RACISTS? Someone else besides me finally said it. How many are actually paying attention to this? There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, Native Americans, etc. And then there are just Americans. You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You call me “Whiteboy,” “Cracker,” “Honkey,” “Whitey,” “Caveman” and that’s OK. But when I call you, Nigger, Kike, Towelhead, Sand-nigger, camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink you call me a racist. You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live? You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Martin Luther King Day. You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day. You have Yom Hashoah You have Ma’uled Al-Nabi You have the NAACP. You have BET. If we had WET(White Entertainment Television) we’d be Racists. If we had a White Pride Day you would call us racists. If we had White History Month, we’d be racists. If we had any organization for only whites to “advance” our lives, we’d be racists. We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that? If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships, you say that we’d be racists. There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US, yet if there were “White colleges” that would be a racist college. In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists. You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you’re not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists. You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist. I am proud. But, you call me a racist. Why is it that only whites can be racists? There is nothing improper about this bulletin. Let’s see which of you are proud to repost this

So this is part of what’s happening up in Warwick.

What we’re talking about is evidently not just a group of good kids who happen to do something stupid one day. What we seem to have is a group, a clique, where this sort of attitude is pretty widespread. They self-identify as “rednecks”; racism seems to be an entrenched part of that.
