Whom do the troops support?

Hmm. The military famously tilts conservative, or so we are assured by conservatives. But money-wise that may be changing, suggests a new poll showing that “members of the U.S. military have dramatically increased their political contributions to Democrats, marching sharply away from the party they’ve long supported.”

And as The Plank notes, the most interesting aspect might be which specific candidates get the most money from the troops:

Anti-war presidential candidates Barack Obama and Ron Paul are the top recipients of military money…..

Obama, who has never served in the military, has brought in more contributions from uniformed service members–about $27,000–than any other presidential hopeful, Democrat or Republican….

Among GOP candidates, Ron Paul, the only Republican who opposes the war, has brought in the biggest haul from the military since the start of the 2008 election cycle in January–at least $19,250.

But wait - if they don’t support the war, I thought that meant they hate the troops?

It's ok as long as you are a Republican.

The "follow the money" logic says they are interested in ending their participation. Given that Paul and Obama aren't even from the same party shows they don't care who gets them out of there.
