More manly Republican men

July 5th, 2007 9:14 am · 13 comments

The American Prospect on the GOP man-crush primary:

How do you decide who gets your vote in the presidential elections? Is it determined by the candidates’ physical appearance, by the charisma they radiate or by the emotional strings they manage to tug deep inside you, conjuring childhood yearnings for security and a night-light after dark?

That’s pretty much the Republican entire platform, isn’t it?

From the article...
QUOTE
Why are so many pundits enamored of the Republican candidates' manliness -- and so eager to equate "presidential" with "masculine"?

This is a reflection of our society, Republican and Democrat, alike. People are enamored with manliness, because such a high percentage of people have grown up in the absence of strong male role models. The concept of a manly man fills an emotional void in people, who lack that positive role model. It also fills the void in those who would like the government to be their daddy and nanny.

Yes Gil, that's the entire Republican platform - looks. Has to be true since most of the quotes were from Chris Matthews, and we all know how bi-partisan he is.

Can't you raise the level of discourse above the 5th grade?

I guess it stands to reason that Edwards, Obama, etc. are sissies then. After all, they are trailing a woman.

Billary is a "woman" only in strict terms of physical gender. Labeling shim as "a woman" in the political sense is sexist and discriminatory. We live in a free and open society where anyone can be whatever they believe they are... at least in their own mind under a blanket in a closet in the basement with all the lights off. Shoving Billary into a jar of estrogen is not only an affront to all so-called "female" politicians who have bigger k'niggees than Junior, it's an outright assault on Obama's and Edwards' refined sense of haute couture and careful manicuring.
