Just got off the phone with an aide to a local Republican state legislator, who was carping about the phone calls they’ve been getting this week. “YOU TELL THAT GUY TO VOTE AGAINST THE IMMIGRATION BILL!” Which of course state legislators have nothing to do with.
Wonder how many state legislators are getting such pinhead winger calls. Might be a decent story…

The Senate is considering the bill, not the House. Did you know that? Hey Gil, I heard the same thing was happening at Sturla's office. Wonder who could be calling him?

Same people is my guess. They're just barraging any and every rep. or senator, state or federal, with calls. Drudge said Senate switchboard was shut down, too many calls. |

I happen to agree that the bill is terrible legislation, at least it was before it was changed, and changed and changed some more. I'm among those who have no confidence in the ability of the feds to execute the enforcement standards.

One of the reasons I haven't written extensively about the immigration issue is that I don't come down hard on either side. I think there definitely are excellent arguments against this bill, against what this bill seeks to do. But if there's going to be some sort of legislative "fix" for what's going on, first, it's going to have to be a compromise - and second, I don't know that we do better than this bill, bad as it might have been.

Please tell me what is so strange about calling a state rep on a national issue. Do you think Lil gib doesen't know Pitt's phone number. Seems like a perfecty good way of getting your oppinion heard. Although they can delete it from their answering machine.
