Our broadcast moral overlords

This is unbelievable. Both Fox and CBS have rejected an advertisement for Trojan condoms, specifically because the ad in question suggests condoms can and should be used to prevent unwanted pregnancy:

Both had accepted Trojan’s previous campaign, which urged condom use because of the possibility that a partner might be H.I.V.-positive, perhaps unknowingly. A 2001 report about condom advertising by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation found that, “Some networks draw a strong line between messages about disease prevention — which may be allowed — and those about pregnancy prevention, which may be considered controversial for religious and moral reasons.”

Representatives for both Fox and CBS confirmed that they had refused the ads, but declined to comment further.

In a written response to Trojan, though, Fox said that it had rejected the spot because, “Contraceptive advertising must stress health-related uses rather than the prevention of pregnancy.”

See? Condoms for disease prevention are fine; but if you’re using them because you want to have a little consequence-free sex, then you’re way out of line.

Amanda at Pandagon nails it:

The networks are cowering because they’re scared to death of anti-choicers writing in and b*tching about the idea that sluts should escape their due punishment for having sex. Make no mistake, this is not about the fetuses. Not even the most crazy anti-choicer can convince himself that condoms kill babies. The idea of preventing unwanted pregnancy—and therefore preventing abortion, actually—is the source of the angst. Once more with feeling: It’s not about the babies, it’s about punishing women for having sex.

Gil, you need a hobby. You are loosing your ability to articulate your perspective with out it coming across as a rant. While I may not totally disagree with your, implied, point of view your method of expression is far from the expectation of a "journalist".

Gil (not so smart) Smart is once again bending a story to suit his own warped far left philosophy. People can us a condom for any reason they want, but Fox and CBS will not accept advertisements that promotes the use of condoms for other reasons then health reasons. What's the problem Gil?

[size="3"]Anyhow some dip stick like Gil would probably put it on incorrectly, get some one pregnant then sue everybody including Fox and CBS, I'm assuming Trojan makes condoms that small…………have a nice day Gil smile.gif

Gil, cite your sources which unequivocally states the reasons Fox and CBS refused to air the ad, because they are scared of the Pro-lifers (or anti-choicers). If it is any where I missed it. If you can’t produce good concrete evidence than we can all assume that part of this article has been conjured up by “Amanda” at Pandagon and you repeated it.

There may be a whole lot more reasons why Fox and CBS rejected this ad.

- First, it is just plain down a stupid unprofessional ad.

-Second - False advertising and fear of liability – condoms are NOT 100 % effective in protecting against pregnancy or disease.

-Third -Using pigs – sending the message that all men are pigs, unless they use condoms.

- Fourth - the reference to evolution - 48% of Americans don’t believe in evolution.

All of you are going on and on about condoms on these networks. We don't want to protect our children?? I guess it's okay to have the boys and men advertise about male enhancements though, right, BOB??? I guess one commercial should follow the other. And being able to say "Men, If your erection lasts for more than 4 hours, contact your physician". How appropriate is this? What is this world coming to? Last night I watched 4 different commercials for alcohol (not beer). I guess all of our kids are going to become alcoholics now, right? I want my son, even at an early age, to know to protect himself. What is everyone so afraid of? I don't want my son to play Russian Roulette with his life. My son asked me the other day what a "period" was. I asked where he heard that and he said on a commercial. It's everywhere guys, it's how you deal with it that makes you who you are-or aren't.....It's not going to get better..........adjust accordingly guys........

You guys should also know that Lancaster Newspapers has one of the best with Gil Smart. Take it easy on him...........geez
