Former Olympic track cyclist Chris Boardman has unveiled a futuristic bicycle design with an “unbreakable” locking mechanism that opens with fingerprint recognition of the owner, puncture-proof, self-inflating tyres (tires) on spoke-less wheels, solar-powered rechargeable lights and a solar-powered, battery-assisted motor that can take over pedaling when the rider is tired.
All of the technology is available now, but Boardman, in a London Daily Telegraph article, believes it may be 20 years before people adopt the futuristic bike. Still, he is calling for investors to help him develop and market the “intelligent” bike. The more people who do, the less expensive such a bike would be. If such a bike were sold today, it may cost as much as $823,000. Once they are mass produced, Boardman anticipates the bikes would less than $3,300.
