In a promotional gimmick in advance of the Tour of Utah, Lancaster County native Floyd Landis will be challenging Utah Jazz guard Deron Williams in a three-point shootout and in a bicycle time trial on Friday.
Landis said the last time he was on a basketball court “was probably when I was 15,” he said in a release sent by his OUCH Pro Cycling Team Presented by Maxxis. Landis would have been a student at Conestoga Valley High School at the time.
“But,” Landis added, “cyclists are usually really good basketball players, so I’m not concerned.”
Williams and All-NBA point guard was a member of the USA’s gold-medal winning team at the Beijing Olympics last year.
The promotional event at the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, is a precursor to the 2009 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah, August 18-23, in which OUCH will be competing.
The motorsports park is the same course that will be used for the race’s Stage 3 individual time trial.
