Martin’s Bike Shop turns 50

Martin’s Bike Shop, on Division Highway in Hinkletown, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The shop, started in Henry Martin’s basement in 1959, is now operated by Martin’s son, grandson and great-grandsons.
The shop is giving away 50 items, including three bikes, during its anniversary sale. The sale continues through Saturday, May 9.

The Pro Cycling Tour officials allowed a Monday deadline to pass without making an announcement whether the 25th annual championship race will be held June 7. On Tuesday, PCT President David Chauner said that talks have opened with a potential new sponsor for the race. Chauner is facing a $500,00 funding gap.

Sauder Easter Egg, Mount Joy Road Race on Saturday

The Sauder Easter Egg recreational ride begins Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. at Lititz Spring Park, near the center of Lititz. Cyclists can do day-of registration for 10, 25 and 50 mile recreational rides. The cost to register is $22. Proceeds benefit the Lititz Fire Company. Lays-offs come to Cannondale

Bike maker Cannondale will cut 200 jobs from its Bedford, Pa. plant, sending its frame-making operation to Taiwan, news sources reported recently.
