Ghost Bikes are white-painted bicycles that have appeared around the country and at locations around the world at the sites where bicyclists have been killed or injured by motorists.

In New York City and in Louisville, Ky. on Sunday there will be somber rides to remember fallen cyclists. The New York Ride begins at 10:45 a.m. in the Bronx. The ride will make 15 stops at memorial sites before concluding in lower Manhattan at a memorial service at St. Mark’s Church.

Ghost Bikes first appeared in St. Louis, Mo., in 2003. A year later, the first ones appeared in Pittsburgh. They are now also in Philadelphia and State College in Pennsylvania.
