This morning was the first frost of the season. At 32 degrees, it was time to break out the tights, heavy shoe covers, fleece top and headband. The heavier stuff stayed in the closet.
It’s just the beginning. According to an article in today’s New Era, it hit 29 this morning in Millersville between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. and Millersville University Meteorologist Eric Horst said cooler temps are here to stay.
Many people hang up their bikes at this time of year and head to the gym. Those hardy souls willing to brave the chill, pull on more layers. Check out the IceBike website to see how it is done. There are articles there on clothing, commuting and safety in the cold.
Officially, winter doesn’t begin until Dec. 21. Personally, I divide the calender evenly into light and dark. The season of darkness began last Wednesday. It lasts until April 15. I try to ride as much as I can in the winter. I park the bike when the ice and snow covers the shoulders of the road. Wishing you clear roads for the next six months.
