There are a pair of cyclocross races this weekend that are not too far from Lancaster County.
Saturday’s race is the Granogue Cross, a Mid-Atlantic Series race, near Wilmington, Del. On Sunday, there is the Wissahickon Cyclocross race, at Ludwig’s Corner, in neighboring Chester County. Both races are attracting some of the top names in cyclocross.
The Granogue race is being held on a private estate of the DuPont family. The estate is open to the public only for the race. Gates open at 6 a.m. The first race is at 9 a.m. More than 345 riders are already registered, including Ryan Trebon, of the Kona team, and Jeremiah Bishop, of the Trek/VW mountain bike team. Frame builder Richard Sachs will be racing with the elite master men.
The Wissahickon race, 25 miles north at the Horse Show and Country Fairgrounds at Ludwig’s Corner, will include many of the same riders, plus a mini handmade bicycle show, live music and, according to the Daily Peleton, the largest beer tent on the MAC Powered by SRAM circuit. The first race on Sunday also begins at 9 a.m.
