Dream Ride closing, Covered Bridge this weekend

August 15th, 2008 2:29 pm · 0 comments

The Dream Ride for Lancaster Cycling Program is inviting all interested cyclists to join for a ride and a potluck meal to celebrate the closing of the summer season on Saturday, at 3 p.m., in front of Donegal Middle School, along Route 441 in Marietta.

Participants can do a 10- or 20-mile ride along the marked Heritage Bicycle Route C, followed by the meal.

Along with recognizing the accomplishments of the 15th season of the bicycling safety and recreational cycling program, participants can also applaud the return of the first of the Nightmare Tour cyclists. Nightmare riders, who will be leaving the school at about dawn, will ride the 178-mile perimeter of Lancaster County.

Also, this weekend, the Lancaster Bicycle Club will hold its 30th Covered Bridge Metric Century Ride on Sunday. Some 3,000 riders are expected to participate in the ride, which is one of the largest in the Mid-Atlantic region.

A note to Covered Bridge riders: Upper Leacock Township on Tuesday placed tar and gravel on Windy Tor Road, between Snakehill and Forest Hill Road. Look for loose gravel as you climb Snakehill and turn right onto Windy Tor. The relatively new pavement on Forest Hill Road will feel like riding on silk.
