Potholes and Road Apples

Cycling Life in Lancaster County

A handlebar view of France

July 16th, 2008 7:44 am · 0 comments

For those of you who follow the Tour de France via online live coverage on the Velonews or Cyclingnews websites, you have to rely on the descriptions of the race in the text to get a visual image.

Now, those tech-savy folks at Google maps have put online a way to see the towns the race will pass - although not the actual race - from your computer. With Google’s “street view” you can click your mouse to travel the same roads as the racers. Unlike satellite views that let you look at an area from above, the street view is right at street level. You can see the French streets as you would through a windshield or over your handlebars.
