Pedal to Preserve riders raise $56,000

June 17th, 2008 10:18 am · 1 comment

More than 800 bicyclists weathered oppressive heat and raised more than $56,000 for the Lancaster Farmland Trust during the 11th annual Pedal to Preserve ride on Saturday, June 7.

The funds will be used in the Trust’s effort to purchase perpetual easements on 40 farms. The 11th annual ride was sponsored by First Priority Bank and more than 55 local businesses, which supported the event with donations of goods and services.

56K is awesome. I did the ride myself this year and think this is a great cause. But I'm a bit surprised at the numbers. My math looks like this:

800 bicyclists X $25 = $20,000 (minus overhead to put on the ride)

Where is the other 36K + coming from?
