Cycle Smart RAAM team crossing desert

Ansell at first time stationThe four-person Cycle Smart team, the first Lancaster-based team to attempt, the cross-country, non-stop Race Across America, is crossing the Arizona desert this morning after beginning their race at 5 p.m. EST Wednesday.

The team of Mike Ridgeway, Bob Ansell, Denise Stone and Robin Smith were 345 miles into this race late this morning after reaching the fifth time station at Congress, Ariz. They have 2,670 miles to race before reaching Annapolis, Md. The team is now in third place among the six four-person mixed teams.

Their average speed since the start in Oceanside, Calif. is 18.86 mph. At that pace, they are expected to cross the finish line on Wednesday, June 18, at 8:49 a.m.
