Rollin through Mount Joy

April 10th, 2008 12:44 pm · 0 comments

In Febuary, Dominique Rollin suffered on the front of a Tour of California breakaway for seven hours. The incescent rain, driving headwind and bone-chilling temperatures on Stage 4 led 18 pro riders to abandon the stage. Veteran Levi Leipheimer, the eventual winner of the race, told Velonews it was ”probably in the top three of worst days I’ve ever had on a bike.”

Yet, Rollin, 25, pulled away from High Road’s George Hincapie in the last Dominique Rollin15 miles of the 135-mile stage to take a solo win.

After that, Mount Joy should be easy.

Rollin, of the Toyota-United pro team, is one of 440 riders who had registered by this morning for this Saturday’s Mount Joy Road Race. The event, with a dozen categories, will be held just north-east of Mount Joy borough beginning at 8:50 a.m. Advance registration, on BikeReg, is open until 8 p.m.

Rollin will be coming cross-country to Lancaster County. He raced in California last weekend, where he took fifth in the Redlands Bicycle Classic. He was the only member of his team registered for the professional/category 1,2 and 3 race this morning.

The weather should suit the former Canadian national road champion. According to Accuweather, Saturday is expected to be rainy. Thankfully, it is expected to be warmer than it was when Rollin won the Tour of California stage. The temperature is expected to reach 65 in time for the pro race.
