Kirkwood not a breeze

March 31st, 2008 2:16 pm · 0 comments

The bitter north wind that blew through Saturday’s Kirkwood Road Race made the event unpleasant at best. The 20-plus mph wind slowed riders in the last two miles of the seven-mile circuit as they climbed into a headwind. And the wind was frigid for spectators and riders waiting to depart, as they huddled behind tents, ambulances and trailers to avoid the wind’s heat-sapping effect.

Shown below in the start of the professional/Categories 1/2/3 race. The professional Rite Aid team dominated the race, with a Rite Aid controled break going off the front and setting pace for most of the 57-mile race. Rite Aid’s Miles Watson won that race, with fellow team members taking third, fifth and sixth place.
