Local racing season begins

March 13th, 2008 11:27 am · 0 comments

Spring doesn’t officially begin until next spring, but the local road racing season starts Saturday south of Strasburg.

The Strasburg Road Race, formerly a Pro-Am race, begins at 8:50 a.m. under the auspices of Red Rose Races. Late Thursday morning, 330 riders were already registered to participate. The Category 4/5 race and the Category 4 race are full. Registration for those races was closed about a week ago. Online registration for the remaining categories continues until 8 p.m. today.

Juniors start 2007 Strasburg race

Last year’s Strasburg race was delayed by a week because of snow. This year, the biggest threat is rain. Accuweather is predicting overnight rain Friday stopping before the race, then resuming Saturday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to be about 40 degrees.

The next race in the local calender is in two weeks. The Kirkwood Road Race , on March 29, already had 174 riders registered this morning. The men’s Category 4/5 race is already full. Registration for that race closes March 27.
