Sunday’s Super Bowl was brought to you - at least in part - by bicycle riders. About 1,200 volunteer riders climbed aboard 42 stationary Trek bicycles and pedaled for four days to charge batteries. The electrical power generated riders was used to power the first half-hour of the Fox pre-game show.
Trek, in a Market Wire release, said the promotional effort orchastrated by Amp Energy Drink, made the show the first energy-neutral broadcast in Super Bowl history.
Among the riders at the “human energy event” at the Westgate Mall in Glendale, Ariz., were retired football greats Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw. Montana, left, and Chris Pus, are shown in the Associated Press photograph above. The volunteers rode Trek 7200 hybrid bicycles for 12 hours each day, beginning Thursday.

The bikes are due to be donated to charitable organizations in the Phoenix area.
