Cyclocross coming - last race of 2007

November 16th, 2007 2:48 pm · 0 comments

The last local race of the year will take place Saturday, Dec. 8, at East Lampeter Community Park, 2320 Hobson Road.

The Wonderland Cyclocross Race, organized by Major League Cycling, should draw as many as 150 racers from across the state. The race is being held for its second year, but this year the competition is the state Cyclocross Championships.

Racing begins at 10 a.m. with the category 4 & 5 men. The last race, for the category 1,2 and 3 men, begins at 12:45 p.m. and is scheduled to last for 60 minutes.

Racers will compete on a 1.6-mile/2.6 kilometer grass and paved circuit in the park. There will be three sets of artificial barriers for them to traverse, a run-up hill, a rideable grass hill, a side-hill, turns and a sand pit. The course offers good spectator viewing, and Gold Cafe, at Union National Bank, will be near the start/finish line to provide gourmet coffee.

The hot coffee will probably be welcome. The normal high temperature for the day, according to the Millersville University weather center web site, is 44 degrees, although the record low for the day was set five years ago when it was 11 degrees.

There is no same day registration. Early registration - at a $5 discount - closes Thursday, Nov. 29. On-line registration is at: http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=4407

The race will be held rain or shine.
