Me, my boys and my money are headed to Trexlertown Saturday for the annual end-of-season swap meet at the Valley Perferred Cycling Center, formerly the Lehigh Valley Velodrome.
The veloswap is billed as the largest on the East Coast. The sale draws a wide array of bicycle riders - from tattooed punk rock messengers, to roadies, to mountain bikers, BMXers and trackies. Last year, it drew 250 vendors and 2,500 buyers.
According to the velodrome website, “the Swap Meet features all things cycling, new and used and all prices are negotiable.”
Among the commercial vendors - mostly shops clearing out old inventory - is Ephrata’s Green Mountain Cyclery. Others are: Beacon Bicycles, Nestors, Keswick, Donnelly Imports, Long’s Cycle Shop, Spa Sport, Base Camp Adventure Outfitters, Bike Surplus, Cycle Sport Inc., Champion Systems and Guy’s Bicycles. The infield is mostly individuals clearing out their garages.
Gates open at 8:30 a.m. The event continues until 2 p.m. Admission is $5. Children under age 12 are free.
