Allentown race to go through bar

September 6th, 2007 1:26 pm · 0 comments

Belly up to the bar for good a good spot along the race course.

In what may be a first for bicycle racing, the course of a downtown Allentown mountain bike race this Sunday will go through the inside of a brew pub. Nine of the 15 laps of the Fat Tire Crit will run through the new Allentown Brew Works, a brew pub and restaurant. As many as 50 racers will ride from back to front, past the brewery’s bar area, the Allentown Morning Call reported Tuesday. http://www.mcall.com/news/local/all-tour-sept4,0,7033078.story

The fat tire race will be one of nine in the inaugural edition of Allentown’s Tour De Brew. The new event will also include road criterium races for veteran racers and rising juniors and street sprints on Hamilton Street for children ages 4 to 12.

The Allentown Brew Pub will be open throughout the races, including special viewing areas during the brew-thru race. For a surreal look at pub moutain biking, check out the brew pub’s YouTube teaser at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gH9_6l4Wp0U&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ethebrewworks%2Ecom%2Fevents%2F090907%2Dtour%2Dde%2Dbrew%2F
