COBYS Family Services will hold its annual charity bicycle ride on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 9, beginning at 1 p.m., at the Lititz Church of the Brethren, 300 W. Orange St., Lititz.

The 10- and 25-mile bicycle rides, are combined with two other events - a three-mile hike and a 60-mile motorcycle ride - in an event COBYS calls a Bike & Hike.

The 10-mile bicycle route covers lightly traveled roads between Manheim and Lititz and is suitable for the occasional rider. The 25-mile bicycle route travels north of Lititz and includes scenic vistas, a covered bridge, and rolling hills.

The cost to participate is $25 per rider, but the registration fee is waived for those who raise at least $25 for COBYS from sponsors. Each participant receives a T-shirt, ice cream and refreshments, and an opportunity to win door prizes donated by more than 50 area businesses.

Last year 522 Bike & Hike participants raised more than $62,000 for COBYS ministries. Goals of 550 participants and $65,000 have been set for this year. All proceeds benefit COBYS, a family service agency that provides adoption and foster care services, counseling, family life education, and a residential home for teen mothers.
