Floyd Landis will be coming East next weekend to compete in the Shenandoah Mountain 100, near Harrisonburg, Virginia, in the George Washington National Forest, Cyclingnews.com reported today.
The race follows Landis’ taking second in the Leadville Trail 100 a few weeks ago and mountain bike races in the Teva Mountain Games earlier this summer. Cyclingnews notes that Landis, a Farmersville native, started as a mountain bike racer before turning to road racing in 1999.
Landis, the 2006 Tour de France champion, is still twisting in the wind awaiting a ruling from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. He is accused of using synthetic testosterone to boost his performance during the race. A 10-day hearing was held in May.
Trust but Verify, http://trustbut.blogspot.com/, a blog devoted to the Landis case, on Thursday cited a blurb on Daily Peloton about the Univest Grand Prix in Souderton on Sept. 8. It references a “secret” guest rider will participate in the 100-kilometer cyclosportif ride, http://www.spartacycling.com/rides/. Landis made a surprise appearanceat the Univest race as a spectator last year. He made another advance appearance on behalf of race organizer John Eustice when he came to Pennsylvania in June.
