Cycling Life in Lancaster County

Pre-ride race from your computer

fultonracevideo.jpgRich Ruoff, of Red Rose Races, has a new link on his website that allows viewers to pre-ride the course of the Robert Fulton Road Race from the seat in front of their computers.

The link is at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9E2a9yH5sjw

The race is on Saturday morning at Peach Bottom, in southern Lancaster County. It is also the Senior Pennsylvania State Cycling Championships.

According to Ruoff, the video of the course is being provided for riders from outside the area to see what the course looks like. He plans to also provide video links to future races.

The video appears to have been shot through a car windshield in early spring (the leaves are not yet on the trees.) The rolling, curving 10-mile course will look like authentic Pennsylvania Dutch farm country to outsiders. The video comes complete with the filming vehicle pulling off the road to allow an Amish mule team pulling a manure spreader to pass.

On a cautionary note, the sped-up video may make the squeamish car sick.

Registration for the race remains open until 8 p.m. Thursday. Online registration is at: http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=4607
