Local bicyclist Mike Ridgeway was pedaling through Lancaster County this morning, completing the last hours and the last miles of the Race Across America.
Ridgeway is part of the four-man TeamEndeavor, which began riding June 12 in Oceanside, Calif. They were expected to check in at Time Station 54, in Georgetown, southern Lancaster County, at about 11 a.m. today, before completing the last 110 miles to the finish at Atlantic City, N.J. by about 5 p.m.
The team has been taking turns in the saddle, changing places each half-hour. They have averaged more than 18 mph over the 3,043 miles of the cross-country race.
The team members are among 200 competitors from 25 countries doing what is billed as “the world’s toughest bike race.”
Ridgeway, of Lancaster, is a local bicycling advocate and the founder of the Dream Ride Projects organization.
