Pro-Am race organizer David Butterworth is filling out the local fall racing calender with additional cyclocross races this year.
According to listings on event registration and event calender sites, Butterworth has added two cyclocross races and a swap meet to his event listings. In addition to the Wonderland Cyclocross Race, to be held in East Lampeter Community Park on Nov. 3, Butterworth is planning the City View Cyclocross Race, on Sept. 22, and the Stony Run Cyclocross Race, on Oct. 6.
There are no details of the races on his website, http://www.majorleaguecycling.com/events.htm, but the city view race is listed in Lancaster and the Stony Run race is in Denver.
In addition to the race on Oct. 6, Butterworth is holding a swap meet at the Stony Run race. That swap meet will precede by one week the established end-of-season meet at the Lehigh Velodrome. Listings earlier in the year showed that swap meeting being held on Oct. 6.
The three races are the only cyclocross races scheduled for Lancaster County this year. While the fall/winter discipline has grown in popularity nationally - USA Cycling starting automatically adding a ‘cross listing to new road licenses in 2006 - it hasn’t been consistent here. There was a single cyclocross event in Lancaster in 2000 and 2001 and two in 2002. A check of results listings show that Butterworth’s Wonderland race in 2006 was the only one held here since 2002.
