Toyota-United’s Ivan Stevic spent Sunday night in a Lancaster hospital after abandoning the Tom Bamford Lancaster Classic because of difficulty breathing.
According to the team’s website, http://www.toyota-united.com/, the Serbian National Champion was sitting along the road when team director Harm Jansen spotted him before the half-way point of the 85-mile race.
Stevic was transported by ambulance to an unspecified local hospital, where it was found Stevic was suffering from cramping in his esophagus – the tube through which food passes from the pharynx to the stomach. The problem was not serious, although he was kept in the hospital overnight as a precaution, Jansen said. Stevic was released Monday morning, an account on the website states.
Stevic, who finished a strong second in the CSC Invitational race in Arlington, Va., is expected to be on the start line for today’s Reading Classic, the second race in the Commerce Bank Triple Crown.
