The Lancaster Bicycle Club recently awarded $15,000 in grants to expand police bike patrols and help charitable organizations promote bicycling and bike safety.
The bike club, with more than 500 members, annually distributes funds raised through its Covered Bridge Metric Century ride. The organized bicycle ride attracts more than 3,000 riders who rides of 15, 31 or 62 miles in length. This year’s ride is on Aug. 19. More information at: http://www.lancasterbikeclub.org/cbm.php
Receiving grants this year for officer bike patrols are the East Lampeter Township and Akron Borough police and the James Street Improvement District. Receiving funds for bike racks, cycling equipment and signage are the East King Street Improvement District, Manheim Central Parks and Recreation, Pequea Township, Bicycle Access Council, LEMSA and Strasburg Borough.
The bicycle club promotes safe cycling for fitness, fun and transportation. Group rides for various ability levels are held weekdays and weekends. Nonmembers are welcome. Anyone wishing additional information can visit www.lancasterbikeclub.org or call 396-9299.
