Roses, cont.

January 1st, 2009 · No Comments

USC goes 86 yards for a TD after Aaron Maybin knocks the ball loose from QB Mark Sanchez, but is panelized for offsides.
Nits had better move the rock here, or the landslide could start.

Rose, cont.

January 1st, 2009 · No Comments

On Penn State’s first snap, they went with tight end Andrew Quarless split wide, tailback Evan Royster in the slow and Derrick Williams in the backfield. Don’t remember seeing that much in the regular season.
And starting the Rose Bowl….. Manheim Central Baron Graham Zug.

more Roses

January 1st, 2009 · No Comments

We’ve got color and pageantry coming out our ears. Fireworks during the anthem, a flyover by a stealth bomber, and theopening toss flipped by… wait for it…. Miss Cloris Leachman.
She’s older than Joe, for God’s sake.
There’s an incredible number of Penn State fans here. I’d day it’s 45 percent to 55 for USC. And I […]

On Tuesday the Rose Bowl brought both teams, in their entirety, to the media hotel for interviews. The players filed into a large ballroom, in their jerseys, and sat at round tables in groups of 6-8.
Penn State came first. The Lions mostly sat quietly unless being interviewed. USC followed and looked hopelessly bored, talking on cell […]

The Spartans aren’t that young, but they’re new to this. And they’re on the road. And their motivation isn’t as clear as Penn State’s, since even a win probably won’t get them Roses.
Both teams […]

Temple-Penn State prediction

September 19th, 2008 · No Comments

The Owls probably have the best defense the Lions have faced so far (although, like so many statements that apply to this season, that’s not saying much has to be appended).
Penn State has been clinical so far, laughing off the off-field issues and maybe even using them. There’s an “us-against-the-world,” feel to this. Doubt the […]

Penn State-Oregon State prediction

September 6th, 2008 · No Comments

Completely forgot to do this yesterday, so we’re live from Happy Valley. Although rain is expected later, the weather’s pretty nice right now, just cloudy, hardly any rain up here all day. That means OSU should be able to throw the ball, and pass defense is likely a vulnerable area for Penn State. On the […]
