I believe that at last last we’ve figured out how to post video. So, here’s a “Low Post” segment from a couple week ago about Starkie’s and my favorite sports movies:

Jenkins to Fla.
February 4th, 2009 · No Comments
Jelani Jenkins, the Olny (Md.) linebacker who would have made this Penn State recruiting class a great one, chose Florida over PSU in a letter-of-intent signing ceremony this morning at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School.
Jenkins is rated as the first or second LB in the class of 2009, and among the top 10 […]

I am extremely loathe to employ a word as overused and misunderstood as “choke.”
But the truth, it says here, is that certain athletes lose their comfort zone in pressure situations. Think of the ex-Phillie Bobby Abreu, an excellent ballplayer at his peak.
Abreu normally had sort of casual, milk-the-strike-zone approach that made him a .400 OBP guy. But […]

Nits tie it

Penn State goes 80 yards in 7 plays, despite a crushing illegal shift call that amounts to a 46-yard penalty. Have to say, the play-calling has been excellent so far- the QB draw for Daryll Clark’s 9-yard TD was perfect, and oh by the way one of about four plays, so far, that Pat Devlin […]

USC goes 86 yards for a TD after Aaron Maybin knocks the ball loose from QB Mark Sanchez, but is panelized for offsides.
Nits had better move the rock here, or the landslide could start.

On Penn State’s first snap, they went with tight end Andrew Quarless split wide, tailback Evan Royster in the slow and Derrick Williams in the backfield. Don’t remember seeing that much in the regular season.
And starting the Rose Bowl….. Manheim Central Baron Graham Zug.

We’ve got color and pageantry coming out our ears. Fireworks during the anthem, a flyover by a stealth bomber, and theopening toss flipped by… wait for it…. Miss Cloris Leachman.
She’s older than Joe, for God’s sake.
There’s an incredible number of Penn State fans here. I’d day it’s 45 percent to 55 for USC. And I […]

Rose Bowl prediction
December 31st, 2008 · No Comments
On Tuesday the Rose Bowl brought both teams, in their entirety, to the media hotel for interviews. The players filed into a large ballroom, in their jerseys, and sat at round tables in groups of 6-8.
Penn State came first. The Lions mostly sat quietly unless being interviewed. USC followed and looked hopelessly bored, talking on cell […]

Just wondering

When Andy Reid yanked Donovan McNabb out of a game two weeks back, the unanimous consensus was that this was a desperate, irrational, indefensible move. Are we still sure about that?
