Penn State coverage, prediction

September 4th, 2009 · No Comments

Wanted to break down what we’re doing with Penn State this year. In the Sunday News game days, I’ll have a game story, column, highs and lows (a quasi-notebook) and grades.
In the daily paper: A post mortem Monday, something off Joe’s weekly press conference Wednesday, and a player-profile/game preview Friday.
I’ll also put excerpts (at least) […]

The weather, the food, the general sense of bonhomie…. it’s been a delightful Fourth of July weekend. Howevah…..
Ryan Howard should not be going to the all-star game. The National League is going with four first basemen- Howard plus Albert Pujols, Adrian Gonzalez and Prince Fielder. Dumb.
Howard has an .845 OPS. Gonzalez’ is .969 is a […]

June 18th, 2009 · No Comments

Here’s one of three segments of the latest edition of The Low Post, in which Starkie and I compare the Lakers to the great teams and Kobe to the great players.
This is segment two, recapping the NBA Finals.
Segment three: are Eagles fans all in all just pretty darn happy with Big Red, Banner, McNabb and Co.?

We’d like to make this thing much more interactive. If you have a question, comment, criticism or quarrel you’d like us to address, e-mail it […]

A look at the third-rounders:
East region Thursday
North Carolina-Washington State: OK, maybe I underestimated the Tar Heels a little bit….
Obviously a healthy Ty Lawson makes a big difference here. He played an immaculate game in Sunday’s demolition of Arkansas- 19 points (6-9 FG, 2-4 3pt FG, 5-5 FT), seven assists and no turnovers is 24 minutes.
Carolina scored […]

One staple of this blog in its original conception was supposed to have been to sit down late in the evening weekdays, with the family in bed, and sort of purge. For a variety of reasons (i.e. my disorganization and sloth) that hasn’t happened much. Tonight the domestic planets are aligned….
I’m doing a column for the […]

The weekend that was

March 10th, 2008 · No Comments

Occasionally someone asks who I think I’m writing for, what I consider my audience to be. OK, very occasionally, but it has happened. The answer is a person who’s interested in sport for its own sake, not because they went to Penn State or their nephew plays for McCaskey, a person who wants to know, honestly, what the […]
