Penn State issued the following succinct statement about its five suspended football players:

The five players that did not participate in spring practice are now permitted to work out with the team in the weight room and training facilities.  Their playing status remains unchanged and will be reviewed after each of them resolves certain academic and/or legal issues.

The five: tight end Andrew Quarless, defensive back Knowledge Timmons (from York High School), defensive tackles Chris Baker and Phil Taylor and linebacker Navarro Bowman.

Quarless has had two drinking-related citations from police in State College. The other four were involved in campus fights. All five would be significant contributors if they’re in good standing in the fall.

”They all know where they stand,” JoePa said at the Blue-White game. “I’ve got to feel confident that they’re all grown up.”
