More trouble for JoePa: Wide receiver Chris Bell has been kicked off the team after being arrested for threatening another player with a knife Monday night.
University police filed a report on an incident that took place at the Nittany Lion Training Table, the athletic dining room. Bell had apparently threatened freshman defensive end Devon Still, brandishing a knife with an eight-inch blade.
Still had accused Bell of stealing a cell phone case from the locker room, and also believes Bell had stolen other things from him in the past. According to the police report, “[Grad assistant Samuel] Perryman witnessed Bell standing before Still, holding the knife in his hand.”
Perryman managed to escort Bell away from the confrontation. As Bell was walking away he said, “I have more knives and a gun up here.”
When the police arrived, assistant coaches Mike McQueary, Dick Anderson and Kermit Buggs had managed to subdue Bell and take away the knife. Bell has been arrested and charged with Simple Assault, Terroristic Threats, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Disorderly Conduct and Harrassment.
Bell was suspended from the team in February for his role in a now-infamous fight last October involving several players.
The statement from Penn State was pretty definitive: “Chris Bell, who has been previously suspended from the team, is permanently removed from the team and will not be considered a part of the team in the future.”
