Gonzo

In an interview with Time magazine, our President once said:

“If I were interviewing a guy for the job of president, I’d ask, How do you make decisions? How would you get unfiltered information? Would you surround yourself with hacks? Are you scared of smart people? I’ve seen the effect of the Oval Office on people. People are prepared to come in and speak their minds, and then they get in there, and the place overwhelms them, and they say, ‘Gee, Mr. President, you’re looking good.’ I need people who can walk in and say, ‘Hey, you’re not looking so great today.’ ”

So how’s he done, by his own criteria? Forget for a minute ideology or party affiliation and just honestly, objectively ask: How’s he done, by his own criteria?

Bush’s ego, at least publiclly, comes from his ability to size up people. He has often said he has the ability to look into a person’s eyes and see their character.

This skill is what led Bush to assure us that Vladimir Putin was a rock-solid guy we could work with. That Harriet Miers was a Supreme Court justice. That “Brownie,” was “doing a heck of a job.” And that Alberto Gonzalez would be an Attorney General for the ages.

Naturally, today Bush said he reluctantly accepted Gonzalez’ resignation, even though, “his name was dragged through the mud for political reasons.”

The truth is few things have hurt Bush more politically with his political allies than Gonzo’s incompetence. The truth is Bush’s favoring loyalty over competence has undermined him again and again and again.

The truth is the last thing Bush has ever wanted is someone to walk in the Oval Office and say, “Hey, you’re not looking so great today.”

It’s impossible to overstate it: This has nothing to do with ideology. If I was a right-winger, a real conservative, I’d be more disgusted, not less. This is the worst president of any of our lifetimes.

Opinion? Please!

New Orleans is a wreck, Iraq is a wreck, Social Security would be a wreck if the Democrats hadn't held firm refusing to join republicans supporting Bush's "privatization" scheme.

Bottom line, I come to the sports section to get away from all of the rest of the world's crap for a little bit; not to be bombarded by an Olbermann or Limbaugh wannabe. LOL

Like Caesar's wife sports figures and high profile administration members should be above reproach. Michael Vick and Alberto Gonzales are no longer stinking up the joint.
