End of the 1st quarter at Hersheypark Stadium….
This is supposedly an Ohio JV team, with the real Blue Chippers playing in that state’s North-South game tonight. But Ohio looks quicker on the edge (as we grid wonks say) and bigger up front, at least when it’s on offense vs. Pennsylvania’s defense.
B.J. Cunningham, an Ohio WR bound for Michigan State, had four touches for 128 yards in the quarter. No, I don’t know why he missed the North-South. If I can get near him after the game, I’ll ask…..
Penn State kicker Kevin Kelly, OL A.Q. Shipley, LB Tyrell Sales and DB Knowledge Simmons are here, hanging out and signing autographs…..
Marty Schottenheimer has proven to be a hand-on honorary chairman. He teared up briefly at a press conference Friday as he remembered playing in the 1961 Big 33. Today it seems like almost everyone in the house has gotten an autograph and handshake from Schottenheimer…
9:24 left in the game…..
Pennsylvania has really taken control since last we spoke. Running QB Dan Persa, a Northwestern signee from Bethlehem Liberty, has made big plays with his arm and, especially, his legs, running for two touchdowns and throwing for one. Pa. leads 28-10 and Ohio, the past couple series or so, is looking worn out.
Pa. standouts, in addition to Persa: WRs Derek Moye (Penn State), and Toney Clemons (Michigan), RBs Henry Hynoski (Pittsburgh) and Max Suter (Syracuse), LB Nathan Stupar (Penn State) and DB Daryl Robinson (Temple)….
