This just in: The Philadelphia Eagles have signed Perry Patterson, the McCaskey and Syracuse grad, to a free agent contract.
Patterson’s agent, Jerry Tierney, announced the signing today.
“Actually, he has the size [6-4, 245] and athleticism to play several positions in the NFL. I told him, it doesn’t matter whether you’re a first-round pick or a free agent - it’s what you do in camp that counts. Perry Patterson will open eyes.”
That’s the way agents talk, of course, but Patterson is a big, athletic kid. As a quarterback, Patterson is obviously a longer-than-long shot to stick with the Eagles, who already have Donovan McNabb, two veteran backups in A.J. Feeley and Kelly Holcomb, and a QB-of-the-future in rookie first-round draft pick Kevin Kolb. The practice squad is, perhaps, a remote possibility, since the Eagles can’t park a veteran like Holcomb there.
More to come.
