Barons ranked by USA Today

Just perusing USA Today, and on Tuesday the national publication had its final high school football rankings.

Manheim Central, the L-L League Section 2 and District 3 Triple-A champ, is ranked No. 10 in the East Regional.

The Barons finished 15-1 overall after falling to Selinsgrove 10-7 in the PIAA Triple-A state championship game last Friday night.

USA Today ranks Selinsgrove, which went 16-0 overall, No. 9 in the East Regional.

Don Bosco Prep from Ramsey, N.J., went 12-0 and finished No. 1 overall and No. 1 in the East Regional in the USA Today rankings.

One other Pennsylvania team made the rankings – PIAA Quad-A state champ LaSalle finished 24th overall No. 4 in the East Regional.

Manheim Central was also ranked No. 10 in the East by USA Today heading into last week’s state finale.

ESPN TABS SMITH – Lancaster Catholic senior quarterback Kyle Smith was named East Region Player of the Week by ESPN after he guided the Crusaders to a 21-14 win over Greensburg Central Catholic in the PIAA Double-A state title game last Saturday in Hersheypark Stadium. You can read the account here. Smith finished up his career with the Crusaders as Pennsylvania’s all-time leader in passing yards, touchdowns passes and most TD passes in a single season.
