The District 3 football playoff brackets are set, with nine L-L League teams in the field.

Three in Quad-A (Manheim Township, Penn Manor, Wilson).

Five in Triple-A (Cocalico, Conestoga Valley, Elco, Lampeter-Strasburg, Manheim Central).

And one in Double-A (Lancaster Catholic).

Wilson and Lancaster Catholic are out to defend their championships from last fall.

Here’s a quick sneak peek at first-round games involving the nine L-L League teams …

QUAD-A

THE GAME: No. 15 York High Bearcats (6-4 overall; York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 1) @ No. 2 Wilson Bulldogs (9-1 overall; Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1), Friday, 7 p.m.
WINNER GETS: No. 7 Central York (7-3) or No. 10 Dallastown (6-4) in the district quarterfinals.
THE COACHES: York High is coached by Tim Hibbs (1st season; 6-4 overall). … Wilson is coached by Doug Dahms (4th season; 43-8 overall).
DISTRICT 3 HISTORY: York High has never won a District 3 championship, and has never appeared in a District 3 championship game. Bearcats lost to Bishop McDevitt in the quarterfinals last season. … Wilson is the reigning District 3 Quad-A champ (beat Cumberland Valley in last year’s title game), and the Bulldogs also won Quad-A crowns in 1989 (over Cedar Cliff), 1990 (over Cumberland Valley) and 1999 (over Cumberland Valley). Wilson also lost District 3 Quad-A title games in 1996 (to Cedar Cliff) and 2002 (to Central Dauphin).
YORK HIGH SEASON REVIEW: Reading (W 35-7), McCaskey (W 39-14), Susquehannock (W 42-0), Red Lion (W 32-27), Dover (W 27-0), New Oxford (W 35-7), Dallastown (L 16-7), Spring Grove (L 28-0), South Western (L 28-0), Central York (L 28-7).
WILSON SEASON REVIEW: Governor Mifflin (W 42-7), Manheim Central (L 29-27), Downingtown East (W 40-35), McCaskey (W 24-14), Cedar Crest (W 31-0), Hempfield (W 28-7), Reading (W 61-19), Manheim Township (W 35-16), Penn Manor (W 24-20), Warwick (W 31-13).
COMMON OPPONENTS: Two of them – Reading and McCaskey. … York High and Wilson both went 2-0 against those foes this fall; Bulldogs had a trickier time with the Red Tornado than the Bearcats.
NOTABLE: Wilson enters Districts riding an 8-game winning streak. … Tail of two seasons for York High, which opened with a 6-game winning streak, but will lug a 4-game losing streak into Districts. And the four losses in a row haven’t been particularly pretty: York High has been outscored 100-14 in its last four game, and two of those losses were via shutout.

THE GAME: No. 12 Chambersburg Trojans (5-5 overall; Mid-Penn Conference Commonwealth Division) @ No. 5 Penn Manor (8-2 overall; Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1), Friday, 7 p.m.
WINNER GETS: No. 4 South Western (9-1) or No. 13 Cedar Cliff (6-4) in the district quarterfinals.
THE COACHES: Chambersburg is coached by David Carruthers (3rd season; 6-24 overall). … Penn Manor is coached by Todd Mealy (3rd season; 18-13 overall).
DISTRICT 3 HISTORY: Chambersburg has never won a District 3 championship, and the Trojans’ only appearance in a District 3 final was in 1993, when Chambersburg fell to Cumberland Valley in the Quad-A finale. … Penn Manor has never won a District 3 championship, and the Comets’ deepest trip into Districts was last year, when the Comets won a first-round game (over Dallastown) before falling to eventual runner-up Cumberland Valley in the quarterfinals.
CHAMBERSBURG SEASON REVIEW: Lower Dauphin (W 24-8), Altoona (L 18-13), Harrisburg (W 11-6), Cedar Cliff (W 41-13), Cumberland Valley (L 33-15), Susquehanna Township (W 36-32), Bishop McDevitt (L 47-7), Central Dauphin (L 49-0), Carlisle (W 20-18), State College (L 46-14).
PENN MANOR SEASON REVIEW: Solanco (W 47-21), Lampeter-Strasburg (W 14-10), Exeter (W 49-14), Hempfield (W 34-6), Reading (L 32-27), McCaskey (W 41-12), Manheim Township W 28-18), Warwick (W 14-12), Wilson (L 24-20), Cedar Crest (W 36-35).
COMMON OPPONENTS: None.
NOTABLE: Chambersburg limps into Districts, having lost three of its last four games. But the Trojans do own a signature win over Susquehanna Township, the No. 2 seed in Triple-A. And that was Susquehanna Township’s lone loss this regular season. … An odd finish for Penn Manor, which had to hold off Warwick at the wire in Week 8, coughed up a late lead and fell to Wilson in Week 9, and then needed an enormous second-half comeback in a wild one-point win over Cedar Crest in Week 10. Comets have five giveaways in their last three games.

THE GAME: No. 9 Governor Mifflin Mustangs (6-4 overall; Berks Inter-County Section 1) @ No. 8 Manheim Township (7-3 overall; Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1), Friday, 7 p.m.
WINNER GETS: No. 1 Bishop McDevitt (9-0) or No. 16 Harrisburg (5-5) in district quarterfinals.
THE COACHES: Governor Mifflin is coached by Mick Vecchio (19th season; 115-94-1 overall). … Manheim Township is coached by Mike Melnyk (11th season; 62-54 overall).
DISTRICT 3 HISTORY: Neither team has won a District 3 championship, although Governor Mifflin reached the 2007 Quad-A title game, falling to Harrisburg.
GOVERNOR MIFFLIN SEASON REVIEW: Wilson (L 42-7), Boyertown (W 9-7), Reading (L 13-0), Conrad Weiser (W 31-13), Twin Valley (W 28-7), Blue Mountain (W 21-12), Daniel Boone (L 17-0), Exeter (W 51-26), Pottsville (L 49-23), Muhlenberg (W 14-0).
MANHEIM TOWNSHIP SEASON REVIEW: Ephrata (W 14-0), Red Lion (L 31-21), Elizabethtown (W 31-21), Reading (W 50-6), Warwick (W 34-14), Cedar Crest (W 38-20), Penn Manor (L 28-18), Wilson (L 35-16), McCaskey (W 35-6), Hempfield (W 28-14).
COMMON OPPONENTS: Two of them – Wilson and Reading. … Governor Mifflin went 0-2 against the Bulldogs and the Red Knights (getting outscored by a grand total of 55-7) and Manheim Township split with Wilson and Reading, falling to the Bulldogs 35-16 but beating up on Reading 50-6.
NOTABLE: Governor Mifflin edged Manheim Township 28-21 in a District 3 Quad-A semifinal game in 2007 – after the Blue Streaks had edged the Mustangs 34-31 in a non-league game in Week 2 in Shillington. That was Manheim Township’s deepest trip ever in the postseason. … Governor Mifflin rolled Manheim Township 42-21 in a Week 2 non-league game in Neffsville in 2006. So there is some recent history between these programs. … Manheim Township is 2-3 at home and 5-0 on the road this season.

THE COACHES: Shippensburg is coached by Eric Foust (8th season; 32-49 overall). … Manheim Central is coached by Mike Williams (29th season; 297-59-3 overall), who is the winningest coach in the history of District 3 football. He would join the 300-win-club if the Barons advance to the championship game.
DISTRICT 3 HISTORY: Shippensburg has never won a District 3 championship and has never appeared in a District 3 title game. … Manheim Central has won a record 15 District 3 Triple-A crowns, coming in 1989 (over Elizabethtown), 1990 (over Central York, 1992 (over Conestoga Valley), 1993 (over Gettysburg), 1994 (over Conestoga Valley), 1995 (over Garden Spot), 1996 (over New Oxford), 1997 (over Cocalico), 1998 (over Muhlenberg), 1999 (over West Perry), 2000 (over Conestoga Valley), 2001 (over Spring Grove), 2003 (over Lower Dauphin), 2004 (over Mechanicsburg) and 2005 (over Muhlenberg). COMMON OPPONENTS: None.
NOTABLE: Greyhounds hit the playoff trail on a 3-game winning streak. Those wins came against three non-playoff-bound teams with a combined record of 6-23. … Shippensburg’s last trip to the District 3 Triple-A playoffs was in 2007, and also came against an L-L League team – Elizabethtown. The Bears won that game 35-7 in E-town. … Manheim Central has won its last four games in a row via shutout – outscoring its opponents by a whopping 159-0 over that clip – and has six shutout victories this season. The Barons have given up an L-L League-low 76 points this season.

Cocalico also lost to Littlestown in the 1984 District 3 Single-A championship game. … Both teams were bounced by Manheim Central a year ago: Elco in the first round, and Cocalico in the quarterfinals.
ELCO SEASON REVIEW: Hamburg (W 21-19), Pine Grove (W 43-12), Lebanon (W 51-14), Northern Lebanon (W 41-7), Columbia (W 46-20), Lampeter-Strasburg (L 40-14), Pequea Valley (W 41-0), Annville-Cleona (W 34-0), Donegal (W 44-14), Lancaster Catholic (L 51-28).
