Week 10 is in the books, and here’s my final ‘3 Stars’ feature for L-L League Football 2009 …
Justin Gorman, Manheim Central – The Barons’ senior QB only played one half against Garden Spot, what a half he turned in. Try these numbers on for size: Gorman completed 12-of-13 passes for 183 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and he piled up 141 yards on seven keepers and scored three times in Central’s 49-0 win over the Spartans. It was the Barons’ fourth shutout victory in a row and sixth overall, and Central wrapped up a 10-0 regular season and secured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming District 3 Triple-A playoffs. Gorman’s TD runs covered 8, 36 and 7 yards, respectively, and his TD passes went 50 yards to Dan Trafford and 13 yards to Dakota Royer, as the Barons built a safe 42-0 lead at the break and sailed from there. Gorman will head into the postseason with 15 rushing TD and 12 TD passes.
George Murray, Ephrata – The Mountaineers slug-it-out senior RB finished the season in style, piling up 197 rushing yards on 33 workmanlike carries and scoring four touchdowns in Ephrata’s 34-24 upset win over playoff-bound Conestoga Valley. Murray, who came up just short of a 1,000-yard rushing season, scored on TD runs of 3, 38, 2 and 4, respectively, for the Mounts, who got some revenge against the Buckskins, who knocked off Ephrata in Week 10 last year when both teams were winless. Murray finished this season with (unofficially) 978 yards and 12 TD runs, and he helped Ephrata go 2-8 – coming off a 0-10 season and a 16-game losing streak.
Alex Trautman, Lebanon – Clutch performance for the Cedars’ soph QB, who helped Lebanon snap a three-game losing streak with a huge effort in the pocket. Trautman completed 16-of-28 attempts for 352 yards and four touchdowns in the Cedars’ wild 39-32 win over Elizabethtown. His TD tosses covered 62 yards and 15 yards to Nick Pastrana, 16 yards to Brian Quinones and 74 yards to Jesse Sales. Trautman also had an 8-yard TD keeper run for Lebanon, which finished the season 4-3 in Section 2 and 4-6 overall. Trautman finished the season with 14 TD passes.
