Mounts’ RB rushes for 153 yards, 3 TD in streak-busting victory
Happy days in Ephrata.
The streak is over.
The Mountaineers cracked the win column for the first time since Week 10 in 2007 last Friday night, when Ephrata topped Garden Spot 35-7 in an L-L League Section 2 game in Ephrata.
So the Mounts can finally put that otherwise forgettable 16-game losing streak to bed.
Big, big game against Garden Spot for Ephrata senior RB George Murray, who took the ball time and time again on a wet, rainy, dreary night.
Murray slugged it out 31 times for 153 yards and he scored three touchdowns in Ephrata’s victory.
His TD runs covered 9, 1 and 9 yards, respectively. And Ephrata added a pair of defensive scores in the victory: Chazz Storm recovered a fumble in the end zone for a TD, and Murray’s brother, Tim, returned an interception 30 yards for a pick-6 TD.
For his efforts – and for helping Ephrata end the streak – George Murray is the LancSports.com Player of the Week.
Murray has been the Mounts’ top ground gainer this season. His 156 carries are second-most in the league, and he’s 12th in the L-L League in rushing with 567 yards. He’s also scored seven touchdowns.
I chatted with Mr. Murray after practice on Tuesday, and the obvious topic of the conversation was Ephrata’s win, snapping the streak, and now moving forward.
