Barons’ QB wraps up 36-0 win over Conestoga Valley
You might have heard a little bit about last Friday’s Manheim Central @ Conestoga Valley showdown.
That game certainly got a lot of hype.
The Barons lived up to it, blanking their rivals 36-0 in Witmer, as Central improved to 7-0 overall and to 4-0 in Section 2, and now sits all alone atop the heap in the section race.
It was Central’s second shutout in three games, and the Barons’ offense – despite a steady rain and a slick track the entire game – kept on chugging, pounding 392 total yards and 17 first downs.
Senior QB Justin Gorman was particularly tricky to bring down. The Barons’ fleet signal caller called his own number 25 times and rushed for 143 yards and a TD against the Bucks.
He also passed for 91 yards and a pair of scores, including a 23-yard bullet in the back of the end zone to Dan Trafford, who made a sweet grab while tiptoeing the line. Gorman also lobbed a 15-yard TD toss to Dakota Royer, who capped the game in fine fashion by returning a blocked field goal 80 yards for a TD at the gun.
I caught up with Gorman after the game, and we chatted about playing in the rainy conditions, about how Central’s offense remained in gear, despite the conditions, about knocking off CV to take over sole possession of first place, and about where the Barons go from here – with three games to go in the regular season.
