Blue Streaks’ senior chats about Township’s success

Everyone knew about Wilson.

Heck, everyone always knows about Wilson – even in a year when the Bulldogs had to replace 20 total starters from a 14-1 team that ripped through Section 1 and District 3 Quad-A all the way to the state semifinals.

But who was going to be that other Section 1 team that would come through the pack and challenge Wilson for the section crown?

Through the first five weeks of the regular season, that team sure is beginning to look like Manheim Township, which moved into a first-place tie with Wilson compliments of a 34-14 Week 5 win at Warwick. And Reading helped out when it wiped out previously undefeated Penn Manor 32-27, leaving Township (2-0, 4-1) and Wilson (2-0, 4-1) tied atop the race as the regular season hits the second half.

By the way, Wilson is at Township on Friday, Oct. 23 if you must know.

Tons and tons of balance so far for the Streaks, who no longer operate out of the Razorback 100 percent of the time. Sure, there are plenty of spread packages to go around. But the key is the balance, where on any given play, any number of kids can get their mitts on the pigskin.

One of those kids is Brian Sourber, who is off to a sensational start for the Streaks. He plowed through Warwick for 210 yards and four touchdowns in Week 5, and he’s a tick under 600 rushing yards through the first half of the regular season for Township, which has won three games in a row and is picking up some major momentum.

I caught up with Sourber after the win over Warwick, and we talked about the victory over the Warriors, about motivation, about the Streaks’ attack, and about Township being very much in the thick of the section hunt.
